Treatment

Good osteopathic treatment is about 75% hands-on treatment and 25% management of the condition.Management includes explaining the reasons/mechanics of the presenting symptoms so as to allow you the patient to understand the reasons for the symptoms. In this way the patient can understand what type of movement is going to aggravate the symtoms and what they can do themselves to speed up their recovery. It includes advice on types of exercise such as yoga, pilates, cardiovascular exercise and postural advice concerning ergonomics at work and for travelling.

Effective osteopathic treatment can only be carried out after a safe working diagnosis of the presenting condition has been achieved. This is done by taking a thorough case history and performing an in-depth osteopathic examination. The diagnosis tells us the nature of the injury, why it happened and enables us to design a specific treatment plan to effect a quick and safe recovery.

Effective treatment is based on the philosophy that we should treat the whole body and not just the presenting complaint. We do this using a combination of deep tissue massage, articulatory and manipulative techniques and gentle cranial-sacral release techniques.Seans approach is quite unique in that treatment sessions last 50-55 minutes which allow sufficient time to better understand the nature of the problem and treat accordingly. He believes that effective osteopathic treatment should include assesssment and treatment of the feet(our structural foundations) and the hip flexors, diaphragm and ribcage which are essential for effective breathing. This usually enhances the treatment of the presenting symptoms and reduces the chances of a relapse.

If you present in an emergency with acute pain and other symptoms,Sean will endeavour to give you a safe diagnosis, effective and safe treatment to start reducing the symptoms, advice on self help and/or where he finds appropriate, referral onwards to a more suitable practitioner such as  an orthopaedic doctor.
